Within the inaugural exhibition Soul of Matière, SM Bureau presents a first collection by Studio Torbina, conceived specifically for the bureau and its newly opened gallery space in Paris’s 7th arrondissement.
Developed in close dialogue with SM Bureau, this curated ensemble of sculptural objects in wood and stone reflects a shared sensitivity to material, form, and restraint. Studio Torbina explores the silent strength of natural matter, allowing textures, weight, and proportion to emerge with clarity and intention.
Each piece embodies a balance between rawness and refinement, intuition and structure. Handcrafted and deliberately pared back, the works reveal traces of gesture and making — an intimate conversation between material and hand.
Through this exhibition, SM Bureau affirms its vision of the gallery as a space of encounter: between architecture and collectible design, between studio and artist, and between the tangible presence of objects and their timeless resonance. Founded in Paris by Aleksandra Smetanina, the bureau positions material as both medium and language — a quiet but powerful narrative at the heart of its curatorial approach.
